Magyar Suzuki, the Hungarian unit of Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation, will begin manufacturing sixth-generation Suzuki Swifts at the company's plant in Esztergom following the annual summer production shutdown, the daily Népszabadság reported on Friday.
Suzuki will introduce the sixth-generation Swift at the Paris Motor Show in September.
Népszabadság said that Magyar Suzuki will not, however, manufacture third-generation Opel Agilas at the plant. Opel sales director Alain Visser told the newspaper that the company will make the new Opel Agilas in Germany.
Citing data from auto-research company Jato, the newspaper noted that Magyar Suzuki manufactured nearly 60,000 Opel Agilas last year.
Népszabadság has also learned that Audi Hungária, the Hungarian unit of German vehicle company Audi, plans to expand operations at its plant in Győr, including further development of the Audi Hungária motor-development center.
Audi Hungária communications official Mónika Czechmeister told the newspaper that the company had manufactured 6,000 vehicles during the first two months of the year, Audi Hungaria's pre-crisis production level. Czechmeister said Audi Hungária's current stock of orders suggest that the company will produce 80,000 more motors in 2010 than in 2009.
