Chamber of Commerce of Estonia

ECCI Annual declaration

Chamber of Commerce as an Influence on the Enterprise Climate
Estonia’s accession to the European Union affected the business environment in Estonia in 2004 the most. This changed the competition conditions for the companies, increased export opportunities from one side and introduced quotas and import duties from the other side.

Membership
The membership of the Chamber of Commerce continued to grow in 2004 – the number of members was 3340 by the end of the year (3310 at the beginning of the year).

Information services
The main event for the Euroinfo Centre (EIC) in 2004 was, of course, Estonia’s accession to the European Union (EU). As much attention was paid to information dissemination during the previous years,

Contact services and international cooperation
The main objective of the Department of International Relations in 2004 was mediation of information on interesting markets to Estonian companies and promotion of exports through various events (43 different events).

Foreign Trade services
Accession to the European Union brought about great changes in foreign trade policy. Instead of a separate foreign trade policy,Estonia has to proceed from a common system of the EU. Companies operating in foreign trade had to adjust to a completely different situation.

Vocational Reform
In 2004, the Chamber of Commerce continued its participation in the development of the educational policy on the activities and decisions affecting vocational education and employees’ qualifications.

Strong support from the Chamber of Commerce to regional development

Tartu office

One of the objectives of local offices is making the services more accessible for the members. Daily services of the Chamber of Commerce (answers to information queries, issue of certificates of origin, consultations) were used very actively via the Tartu office in 2004 and the number of certificates of origin issued to Southern Estonian companies was 785.

The Chamber of Commerce as a communication channel between entrepreneurs
Membership days in counties were also organised in 2004. This time, members of eight regions had the opportunity to meet the chairman and members of the Management Board of the Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber of Commerce promoting the arbitration clause
The analysis of the work of the Arbitration Court of the Chamber of Commerce in 2004 allows us to confirm that the trust of the companies in the Arbitration Court is growing and more and more arbitration clauses are entered into contracts.
