Accessories for industrial furnaces • Hot extruded steel • Heating elements • Heating resistance materials
Through many years of research and development Kanthal has accumulated a tremendous know-how about heating and heating systems. Why not make use of Kanthal's knowledge to improve your process and find the optimal heating solution? You will then see that not only does Kanthal supply superior heating systems but also a high level of technical and commerical support. HISTORY The Kanthal alloy was invented almost by accident. A forgotten sample in a furnace resulted after years of development work in a completely new resistance material based on iron-chromium-aluminum. In 1931 the new alloy was introduced on the market when AB Kanthal was formed. After the introduction, Kanthal expanded rapidly on the world market and a network of own subsidiaries were set up in all major industrial countries. The original alloy is still there, although improved in all respects. It is now part of a complete product range including other heating materials, precision wires, special alloys, bimetals, ceramic fibers, radiant tubes, high temperature elements and heating systems. The product range covers almost all applications and temperatures.Kanthal is certified according to EN ISO 9001
TODAY
Products that contribute to the customers profit Our aim is to offer the best products in terms of properties and performance and a complete product range. We compare our products with those of our competitors and are not satisfied with a second rating.Kanthal products shall contribute to the profit of our customers by creating a more efficient, reliable and cost effective production.
Skilled and motivated personnel at local sales offices We are present with our own personnel and own companies/offices close to the customers wherever they are. The commercial and technical service should be of the same high standard as our products and normally taken care of locally. The customers can rely on a long-term relation and reliable services.
Kanthal world-wide market organization comprises some 20 subsidiaries and 50 representatives, sometimes in co-operation with local Sandvik companies.
Extensive R&D resources and technical back-up Kanthal allocates substantial resources on basic material research with the aim to stay in front in the development of new resistance heating alloys and elements. Linked to the R&D work are the application engineers and product specialists that help the local sales organization with specific technical questions and customized solutions.
Own integrated production Kanthal is one of the few manufacturers in the world with fully integrated production from raw material to finished products. Production resources are also built up at different subsidiaries for drawing and element manufacturing. Silicon carbide elements and FIBROTHAL® are manufactured outside of Hallstahammar.
Own production means full control of delivery capacity and the product quality. Kanthal is multi-site approved according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

 | Metallic Heating Elements Ready-made furnace elements manufactured in Kanthal workshops from KANTHAL® or NIKROTHAL® alloys for furnace temperatures between 50–1350°C (120–2460°F).
We can assist you:
in choosing suitable element material, element type, support system and insulation
by supplying complete heating elements ready for installation
with re-designing gas or oil-fired furnaces to electricity
Our modern workshops have developed considerable experience in manufacturing heating elements and can manufacture to any specifications. The delivery time is short and our service objectives are high.
| | Precision Wire Precision wire is manufactured to the smallest possible practical sizes, in our case down to 0.015 mm (0.00059 in).
The alloys we offer cover a broad range with different optimized properties on electrical resistivity, temperature coefficient, mechanical properties or corrosion resistance properties.
Precision wire is used in a vast range of application areas, for instance in low temperature heating, in electronic devices such as precision potentiometers, resistors, wire wound resistors etc, in loudspeakers, in the chemical industry in filters and screens and in the automotive industry as RF shielding in cables.
| | Resistance Heating Alloys Regardless of the application, Kanthal's broad range of resistance alloys is the first place to look. In rod, strip, ribbon or wire, there is a material that delivers the specifications you need.
Some heating alloys and pure nickel are also available as stranded wire.
| | Special Alloys Kanthal is manufacturing a broad range of special alloys in the form of rods, wire, strip and ribbon.
Contact the nearest Kanthal office for detailed information. | | Thermocouple Wire Alloys for thermocouples, extension and compensating cables. | | Thermostatic Bimetal Bimetal consists of two or more metallic strips with different thermal expansion bonded together. When heated up it bends in a pre-determined manner and can be used to monitor, measure or regulate heat.
Its main applications are in thermostats for room heaters or water mixing but they are also used in control devices for instance in automobiles.
Kanthal offers a wide range of some 30 standard types of thermostatic bimetal with different specific deflection, manufactured in widths ranging between 1.0–170 mm (0.039–6.63 in) and in thickness between 0.10–2.5 mm (0.0039–0.097 in).
Bimetal is also manufactured as disc material to very close tolerances which give a snap action at a given temperature.
