Precious metal-supported catalysts were first produced in the catalyst test center (KRT) at Hanau-Wolfgang in 1965.
The Catalysts Division was established as part of a restructuring program. In 1971, the Hanau nickel catalyst unit was moved to the Wolfgang plant, building 683. By the end of the 1970s, the division had conquered the world with the production of precious metal-supported catalysts. In Brasil, the manufacture of precious metal-supported catalysts started at the production site of Bragussa in 1978 - the first milestone of catalyst history.
The division quickly grew into a global presence. In 1980, the production of nickel catalysts started up a new chapter in Illinois, USA. At about the same time, the AC Division was established, and chemical and automotive emission control catalysts were combined under the same roof here until 2000, the year dmc2 was founded.
The production of precious metal-supported catalysts and their raw materials such as palladium salt solutions was established in 1983 in South Plainfield, New Jersey, USA. By the end of the 1980s, manufacture and know-how were on the scene in Japan.

Our concern is the entire production cycle, starting with development and extending through to production, shipping, further processing and disposal, or recycling. The business line Degussa Catalysts has integrated environmental protection into its operative units with clearly defined responsibilities. Within the framework of the environmental management system, which is based on the directives of the European Eco-Audit Regulation, production, sales and research are working within a communication network. Self-monitoring, external monitoring, compliance with the law, occupational safety, education and training, product line meetings, regular committee meetings, are organized across all disciplinary lines and serve the continuous development of our high-reaching environmental goals.
ISO 14001 and EMAS
We have demonstrated committment and ecological awareness through ISO 14001 certification and EMAS validation. Besides harmonizing our environmental protection actions between sites, our efforts have allowed us to publish internationally valid environmental statements regularly. We solemnly take responsibility for health, safety and environmental protection.
